Bokeh: the aesthetic quality of the out-of-focus background of a photograph. The term comes from the Japanese word “boke” (pronounced bo-keh), which means “blur” or “haze.” The term is used to describe the way the lens renders lights and shapes that are out of focus in the photograph.
Bokeh – The Radio Show: The Bokeh show is a weekly show mainly about analog photography. We decided to turn the private conversations and DMs about everything that has concerned us from time to time into a more public chat. Once a week (?), Eirini Nikolopoulou (rendle_) and Thanasis Koutras (basophobic) decided to chat, both between ourselves and with the show’s listeners (?), behind the microphones of PULSAR Radio.
You’ll hear us share our experiences, our blunders, our (countless) mistakes; we’ll tell stories about film ruined during development, about using analog cameras to take photos without taking the lens cap off, stories from shoots of rare subjects which will remain rare because “some people” forget to load the camera with film, stories of street photography that didn’t go quite right and “brought us closer” to people who wanted to express their “joy” to us—either verbally or in other… descriptive ways—because we photographed them without their permission, and many, many others.
Over two hours, we’ll talk about different films (black and white and color), standard and quirky cameras, photography accessories, books, channels, and podcasts by important figures in the world of photography, photography tips and techniques; we’ll run contests, and give away gifts, all while listening to some good music (though very little of it, because once we start talking, neither of us stops).
